BEREA -- In a meeting of old conference rivals, Baldwin Wallace outlasted John Carroll in Berea on Friday night.

The Blue Streaks experienced a 31-15 setback to drop to 2-3 in duals this year.

The Yellow Jackets entered as the clear favorite, ranked #8 in the latest NWCA Tournament Team rankings and #24 in the NWCA Dual Team rankings. BW also carried in a 12-match winning streak in the series.

Ty Daugherty got the Blue Streaks in the win column early with a hard-earned decision at 133. The senior scored a 4-2 decision win in strong fashion. Adom Sharpley, in the midst of a breakout freshman campaign, also notched a bigtime win at 141. The Solon native secured an 8-5 decision to knot the score at 6-6 in the early going.

Kyle Bizjak roared for the most vital win of the day for John Carroll. The Aurora native picked up a late pin at 6:25, racking up six points for the visitors from his spot at 149. At 12-6 JCU, the possibility of an upset seemed real for some fans.

But the Yellow Jackets are loaded in the backend of the lineup this year and it showed. A 15-0 tech fall loss at 157 narrowed the gap to 12-11 for BW, and the hosts only picked up steam from there.

Back-to-back losses by pin at 165 and 174 sent JCU to the brink. Wills Bronson fought to the bitter end at 184 but lost an 8-5 decision, which settled the matter. Thomas Lunt did continue his strong senior season at 285, though. His 4-1 decision victory to end the night narrowed the final margin to 31-15.
