Baseball On Wrong End of Sweep Against Allegheny

| By:
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MEADVILLE, PA. - The John Carroll baseball team came away on the wrong side of a doubleheader sweep Sunday afternoon against Allegheny College. The Blue and Gold are now 8-4 on the year.

GAME ONE: (Allegheny - 2, John Carroll - 0)

The first game against Allegheny College was a true pitching showdown. Frank Freeman started the game for the Blue and Gold and allowed two runs through five innings of action. The senior punched out four batters.

Allegheny got on the scoreboard in the second inning, as Jake Fix singled on an 0-2 count to start the frame. A few batters later Michael Alspaugh singled up the middle to score Fix and give Gators a 1-0 lead.

John Carroll had opportunities in the third, fourth, and fifth inning to bring a run across, but would strand a runner second base in each inning.

Jake Corll took the mound in the sixth inning and was nearly untouchable, as the senior allowed one hit in three innings of action.

The Blue Streaks had almost found magic in the ninth inning again, as Thomas Bates started the frame drawing a walk. Unfortunately the next three batters would go striking out.

GAME TWO: (Allegheny - 10, John Carroll - 3)

John Carroll came out of the gates for game two determined and ready to go. Dylan Sowers got on base drawing a walk. Two wild pitches later and Sowers made his way home to give JCU a 1-0 lead.

George Haracz and Ethan Glossa reached base by a walk and hit-by-pitch. Bates stepped up to the dish and had a hard-hit ball up the middle to bring Haracz home.

Unfortunately for JCU that would be the last bit of offense seen until the ninth inning and the Gator's bats came alive. Allegheny cut the deficit in half by scoring a run in the bottom of the second inning.

The host school would take the lead and score three runs in the third inning and would never look back.

Allegheny scored six runs of insurance in the sixth inning to take a 10-2 lead over the Blue and Gold.

In the ninth inning, John Carroll loaded the bases by drawing walks and a hit-by-pitch. Haracz recorded a walk to score the third run of the afternoon.

John Carroll will be back in action Tuesday afternoon and will host Bethany College for one game, as first pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
