Blue Streaks Seal First Victory Of Season Against Wabash College

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The Blue Streaks were victorious in their home opener against the Little Giants of Wabash College by a final score of 17-10.Ā

In their first NCAC matchup of the year on a foggy afternoon at Don Shula Stadium, the Blue & Gold were able to defend home field and secure their first win of the 2026 season.Ā

JCU came out firing at the beginning of the first quarter and added on three goals to open up the scoring.Ā

Contributions from Braden Zarek, Sean Hogan, and Josh Lombardo propelled the JCU offense early in the game.Ā

Wabash answered with three goals of their own to tie the game at three.Ā

Both teams traded goals towards the end of the first quarter due to penalties, but the Blue Streaks were able to win the battle ending the quarter up 5-4.Ā

The second quarter of action favored Rautenstrauch and company as they were able to go on a 4 goal run and build upon their lead going into halftime, led by senior Lombardo tallying four goals in the first half.Ā

Defensive schemes really showcased this afternoon for JCU as the team were able to collect seven caused turnovers to Wabash's 12 going into halftime.Ā

The Blue Streaks picked up where they left off heading into the third quarter. Both William Dunn and Braden Zarek added on to JCU's lead to go up 11-4.Ā

A couple of penalties from Wabash cost them throughout the third quarter as the Blue Streaks were able to answer with a power play goal from William Dunn to extend their lead to eight.

Wabash found the back of the net late in the fourth quarter to cut JCU's lead from ten to seven goals, but it wasn't enough for the Little Giants to make a run.Ā

The defense showed out for JCU as they forced a total of 24 turnovers against the Little Giants, going 3-5 on extra man opportunities.Ā

The biggest stat of the afternoon that benefited the Blue Streaks' performance was they were 23-24 on clears, which led to 32 shots on goal.Ā

Leading the game in goals was Josh Lombardo with six, followed by Larry Voss with three and Richard Moran earning a couple.Ā

Nicholas Yemma became a valuable contributor this afternoon for JCU, collecting eight ground balls.

It was an exciting Saturday for the JCU Men's Lacrosse team, making history in earning their first NCAC win in program history.Ā
