Blue Streaks Cage Tigers in Crucial NCAC Victory

SPRINGFIELD, OH. - The John Carroll women's lacrosse team earned a road victory Saturday afternoon against the Tigers of Wittenberg University by a final score of 18-3. The Blue and Gold were led by the trio of Anna Vaccarelli, Abby Cassidy and Mea Musillo combining for 10 goals.

JCU came out of the gates on fire by scoring the first three goals of the afternoon. Cassidy found the back of the net on first two Blue Streak goals. Cassidy would add an assist on a Vaccarelli goal at the 6:40 mark.

The Tigers would score two unanswered goals to make the count 3-2 in favor of JCU. At this point in the contest the Blue and Gold turned up to a different level scoring 15 straight-goals and never letting their foot off the gas.

Musillo added goals at the 4:19 mark and the 3:22 remaining in the first period. Vaccarelli closed out the first period with her second goal and gave JCU a 6-2 edge after 15 minutes of action.

Following the first two goals early in the first period the JCU defense was locked in by not allowing a goal for over 50 minutes of game action.

One minute into the period, Vaccarelli scored her third goal of the game by receiving a great pass from Anna Spitzer. The offensive outburst continued as Mary Grace Godleski, Karson Martin, Kate Balland, contributed goals and the Blue Streaks would outscore the Tigers 8-0 in the quarter.

In the second half, Allie Quinn and Annalise Caulfield found the back of the net as well to increase the JCU lead to 18-2.

JCU took advantage of their free attempts, converting five goals on nine opportunities. The Blue and Gold also owned a 28-16 shot edge, with 23 being on net.

The duo of Josephine Lawler and Rachel Kroeger combined for nine saves with both holding down the net for 30 minutes a piece.

JCU will be back in action Tuesday evening traveling to Delaware, Ohio for a crucial NCAC showdown against Ohio Wesleyan, as the race for the NCAC tournament is extremely tight.
