Men’s Track & Field Scores Top Finish At Wooster Invitational

WOOSTER, OH – The Blue Streaks are back outdoors. 

The men traveled to the College of Wooster this past Saturday, April 4th for the Wooster Invitational for the third straight season, competing against NCAC teams, as well as familiar faces in the Ohio Athletic Conference. 

The team secured victory, scoring a total of 123 points. In second place was Ashland University with 122 points, followed by the University of Mount Union with 101.5 points.

To start the weekend, in the field events, first year Cole Mayer secured a top 10 finish in the shot put with a mark of 14.54 meters, placing ninth overall. 

Julius Kimbrough continued to show his progression in the men's long jump, earning a fourth place finish with a mark of 6.54 meters. 

The men's 4x100 meter relay of Ethan Show, Basheer Alramahi, Lars Broberg, and Tyler Gast ran 41.27 seconds to win the event. The relay is currently ranked 14th in the country and second in the NCAC. 

Chris Whiting earned a new personal best of 3:58.77 in the 1500 meter run and is ranked second in the conference with that time. 
Senior Tyler Gast had himself a stellar day for the Blue Streaks, earning top marks in the 4x100 meter relay, 400, and 200 meter dash races. 

In the 400 meter dash, Gast won the event with a time of 47.03 seconds, which was a new stadium record and is second in the conference. His 400 meter dash time is also third in Division III. Basheer followed with a time of 47.25 seconds and is ranked seventh in the country with that time. 

Jack Arnold, Lars Broberg, and Tim Herczog all earned personal bests in the 400 meter dash as well. 

Gast also won the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.46 seconds and is now the 27th ranked sprinter in Division III with that time, while also being ranked first in the conference. 

Max Grillo placed third overall in the men's 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.33, which puts him in the top five in the NCAC. 

To round up the day, sophomore Sam Su secures the standard in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:21.08 to place second overall. 

Several NCAA and conference marks were made today from the Blue Streaks, kicking off the outdoor season with some strong finishes.

It will be the first split squad weekend for the men's track & field team as they will travel to Lewisberg, Pennsylvania for the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell University and Alliance, Ohio for the John Homon Invite at the University of Mount Union next Friday-Saturday, April 10th-11th.
