Blue Streaks Drop Regular Season Finale Against Spartans

| By:
Box Score UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio The John Carroll baseball team had its final regular season game against Case Western Reserve on Sunday afternoon at Schweickert Field and lost 11-9.

In the first inning, CWRU started off hot with a lead off triple to deep center field. Michael Perry would retire the next two batters by striking both out. The Spartans would bring across the first run with a double to right field.

John Carroll would respond with no issues in the bottom half of the inning, as Ethan Glossa, George Haracz, and Thomas Bates hit three-consecutive singles.

Brett Krugman smashed a double to right-center field and scored Haracz and Bates to give JCU a 3-1 advantage.

Case responded with three runs in the top of the second inning primarily due to a double that bounced to the fence in left-center field which scored two runs.

The bats stayed hot in the third inning for JCU, as Bates singled over the first baseman's head.

Jake Monaco laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt down the first baseline and tied the game at 5-5.

Dominic Trivisonno hit a chopper to third base and the throw was off the target, which helped JCU regain the lead 6-5.

Dylan Sowers started the sixth inning off with a single straight to center field. A few pitches later, the sophomore stole second base with a sweet swim move to avoid the tag.

Harris would double on the next at-bat with a high fly ball that fell in between the charging left fielder and a back peddling shortstop.

Bates would bring across the leading run with a sacrifice fly in foul grounds.

The Spartans came alive in the seventh inning by scoring four runs on four hits.

In the eighth inning, JCU found some success at the dish with Sowers getting on to start the inning drawing a walk and advancing to second on a failed pick off attempt.

Unfortunately with the bases loaded and one out in the frame, JCU was unable to find the outfield grass and bring across anymore run support.

In the ninth, Glossa singled through the left side to bring around Nico Ruoti making the score 11-10. With two outs, Haracz had a hard hit groundball up the middle, but the shortstop was able to make the play and tag second base to end the game.

Next up, John Carroll takes on Denison University Thursday afternoon for the first game of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament with first pitch slated for 12 p.m.
