Softball Roars for 12 Runs in Season Finale to Split with OWU

The Blue Streaks ended the season on a high note

DELAWARE, Ohio – The 2026 season concluded on Sunday for John Carroll Softball.

All in all, the campaign had its ups and downs, with many highlights to behold. The final game of the season offered optimism with a season-ending victory.

The Blue Streaks finished off the campaign with a 12-6 win at Ohio Wesleyan after the Battling Bishops snuck by with a 4-3 decision in the opener of the North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Game 1
The hosts got on the board first with a 2-run opening inning. A Bella Carcioppolo RBI single quickly sliced the lead in half in the second.

The Battling Bishops added a couple runs to the ledger in the third, but excellent baserunning helped JCU get the runs back in the fourth. Abby Farber and Carcioppolo got aboard with 2 outs on a walk and single, respectively. Carcioppolo stole second and drew a throw from the catcher, allowing Farber to score. Emily Graves then singled to shallow right, and Carcioppolo raced home.

Emily Graves pitched well the rest of the way in the circle to close out what was a fantastic season for the senior. But the bats couldn't come up with a comeback.

Game 2
John Carroll got on the board first thanks to an OWU error and a wild pitch. Following a Jordan Anderson single and a Brynne Smith walk, Melissa Smith stepped up to the box. The senior blasted a nuke of a homer over the wall in left field, as the crack of bat meeting ball made a wonderful sound, good for a 4-0 lead.

Anderson upped the advantage further in the second. The grad student lofted a double over the centerfielder's head to score two more runs.

For good measure, Elaina Rodriguez ripped a 2-run single to center to make it 8-0 JCU after just two innings.

Errors allowed Ohio Wesleyan to ward off an early exit, as the hosts plated three unearned runs in the third. In the sixth, JCU struck back. The Battling Bishops walked the bases loaded with no outs, and the visitors made them pay. Rodriguez knocked in one run off a sacrifice fly. Then, Carcioppolo hit a homer down the line in left to plate three and put the game out of reach.

The Battling Bishops managed to plate a few unearned runs, but it was too little, too late.

JCU's 12 runs were just one off a season high. Smith, Rodriguez, and Carcioppolo all ended their JCU careers with 3 RBI outings. Anderson hit 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and 2 walks. And of course, the star pitched 5.1 innings, allowing 3 unearned runs while striking out 8 Battling Bishops.

The Blue Streaks finish the season with a 14-19 record, 5-9 in NCAC play.
