Blue Streaks Suffer 3-0 Defeat Against Carnegie Mellon At Home

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Just three days after a six-goal tally against Lancaster Bible College this past Wednesday, the men's soccer team returned to Don Shula Stadium for their fifth game of the season.

The Blue & Gold went up against a familiar foe in Carnegie Mellon University this afternoon for their 10th meeting between the two in its history, looking to get their first victory against the Tartans since 2024.

That wasn't the result as the Blue Streaks were shut out by a final score of 3-0 to drop to 2-3 on the year.

In the early stages of the match, both teams were trading the ball with several chances made on each end.

Three shots on goal for JCU in the first half allowed the offense to find a groove and create adjustments on the fly. Substitutions including Dylan Halm and Jean Da Graca helped to find better looks throughout the first half.

After a 0-0 score at the half, the Tartans came right out of the gate. An early goal from Ben Park opened the scoring for Carnegie Mellon on a pass from Tristan Gonzalez before the team took a corner kick.

Not long after, a foul in the box from Carnegie Mellon resulted in a penalty kick for the Blue Streaks, but an impressive save from Kai Yamamoto on Harley Forkins remained 1-0. Just about ten minutes after, the Tartans scored again to extend their lead to two.

From there, JCU struggled to find the back of the net.

After several key substitutions from Coach Dejan Mladenovic '06, 25G and his staff, the group still couldn't find their strengths throughout the second half.

With about two minutes left to play, the Carnegie Mellon offense continued to overwhelm the Blue Streaks as an unassisted goal would result in a 3-0 lead for the Tartans.

Harley Forkins led the team today with five total shots, while Bryce Sampson, who made his debut for the Blue Streaks this afternoon saved three shots.

It was difficult for the Blue Streaks to capitalize on their opportunities after recording seven shots on goal.

The team will now look to regroup next week as a part of their four game homestand in University Heights.
