Record-Breaking Effort Secures First Place for Men's Golf at Allegheny

The Blue Streaks are in the midst of a mind-boggling start to the season

MEADVILLE, Pa. – John Carroll Men's Golf is on a generational heater. 

The Blue Streaks have set a record all three weekends of the season thus far. 

For their latest feat, the Blue Streaks reset the program 36-hole team score record, just 7 days after breaking the mark. John Carroll achieved a team tally of 281-280-561 (-15).

In doing so, the Blue Streaks not only reigned victorious at the Guy & Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational at The Country Club of Meadville, but set the tournament record. JCU defeated host Allegheny College by 23 strokes. Birdies for Breast Cancer helped to raise funds for no cost mammograms as JCU led the field with 34 birdies, raising more than $600.

"The team is demonstrating the maturity of a group that has played together on the national stage the last 2 years," Head Coach Jeff Pawlowski '91 stated. "Making the cut in back-to-back seasons at Nationals has only fueled our fire."

Justy VonLehmden and Daniel Donahue lit the way for the Blue Streaks, as both finished with six-under-par marks to tie for second. 

VonLehmden starred just a week after tying his teammate for the 36-hole individual record. The Findlay native started off the event with an even 72 on Sunday before breaking out on Monday. The Saint John's Jesuit grad vaulted up the leaderboard in the second round, racking up five birdies on his second nine in a fantastic score of 66 (-6) and drawing within just one stroke of the medalist.

Donahue experienced the opposite trajectory to the same destination. The senior opened with a six-under-par start made possible by a whopping seven birdies on Sunday, good for a tally of 66. Three birdies on his first nine Monday were a fine start before cooling off on the second nine. The Pittsburgh native finished even, settling for a tie with his teammate. Still a heck of a weekend for the veteran.

Wade Boyle finished with a similarly strong four-under-par performance. Three birdies to close out his second nine set him on the path to success on Sunday and a nice score of 69 (-3). Once again on Monday, Boyle closed strong with two birdies coming in and no bogeys, wrapping up with a 71 (-1) to secure fourth place.

Austin Malley carded a two-over-par tally for starters on Sunday, highlighted by birdies on No. 2 and 15. A trio of birdies in round two helped him finish under par with a 71, paving his way to eighth.

Owen Tehan rounded out the squad with a final scoreline of 76-78. Birdies on No. 15 and 17 on Monday stood out for the lone non-senior competing for JCU.

The Blue Streaks will host the Blue Streak Invitational at the prestigious Firestone Country Club on Monday, October 5 and Tuesday, October 6.
