Non-Conference Finale Ends in Defeat for Women's Soccer

The Blue Streaks stumbled at Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday evening

BEREA – On the pitch, the rivalry between John Carroll and Baldwin Wallace has historically skewed towards the home team.

Tonight proved a continuation of the theme, as the Yellow Jackets steamed past the Blue Streaks in a Tuesday meeting of old conference foes.

Baldwin Wallace scored early and never looked back in a 4-2 decision.

In the 42-match history of the series, JCU holds a 20-11-11 advantage, though the Blue Streaks are 6-8-6 against BW away from home. The Yellow Jackets have now won the last four meetings in Berea.

The Yellow Jackets found twine in just the second minute, as Kalyn Rich scored for the hosts. Rich struck again in the 30th minute. The shots were even at six apiece through the first 45 minutes, but the Yellow Jackets simply took advantage of the chances.

Despite having a new keeper between the pipes in the second half, JCU still couldn't keep the ball out of the back of the net. Addison France did the damage for BW, scoring twice in the first five minutes of the half.

However, credit to the Blue Streaks, they did not waver.

Brooke Berkowitz got John Carroll on the board in the 69th minute. Just nine minutes later, the sophomore made it a ballgame again, firing home another goal off a Lucy Altieri assist.

Berkowitz's brace, the second of her collegiate career, marked the highpoint for the Blue Streaks.

Despite outshooting the Yellow Jackets in the second half, 11-5, JCU could not find two more goals for the comeback.

With the loss, JCU will head into conference play with a 2-6-2 record on a 4-game losing streak. But non-conference records don't matter when the calendar turns to October.
