SEWANEE, Tenn. — In the second of two games down South, John Carroll Field Hockey hoped a comeback. 

As John Carroll took on Rhodes College this afternoon, the Streaks got off to a solid start. However, as the afternoon progressed, the Blue Streaks' momentum began to fade. 

The Lynx came away a 5-1 victory over John Carroll. 

The Lynx came out hot, tallying a point on the board just 49 seconds into the game. As the quarter progressed, both teams were racking up fouls. The Streaks were able to capitalize on this, as they scored off a penalty corner nine minutes into the game. Kierra Maxie got the Streaks on the board, with the help of Maddie Mormino, ending the quarter in a tied game. 

As the afternoon started to heat up, the momentum began to cool down for JCU.

The second quarter started off slow, until the Lynx tallied another point on the board at 26:33. As the game went into halftime, Rhodes had a 2-1 lead over John Carroll.     

Both teams seemed to be feeling the effects of the heat, with fouls being the only action that was seen in the third quarter. The quarter ended the same as it started, with the Lynx having the 2-1 lead over the Streaks.

As the fourth quarter began, the fatigue of playing two games in two days was beginning to set in for the Streaks. Early into the fourth, the Lynx tallied another one on the board, giving them a 2-goal lead over the Streaks. Just minutes later, Rhodes notched another one on the board, giving them a 4-1 lead. As the game came to a close, the Lynx were able to nail it home, ending the game with a 5-1 victory over the Streaks.

The South seemed to bring a style of play that the Streaks weren't ready for in fast-paced, foul-heavy, and aggressive play. John Carroll was only able to get 1 shot on the day, while Rhodes dominated offensively with 48 shots. The trip ended with the Streaks going 0-2. 

Despite a tough loss, Ellison Hilgendorf was perfect on the day. The first-year player saved all 14 shots that she faced in 27 minutes of action.

The Streaks are at home for their inaugural home opener Saturday, September 12 at 12 PM against Centre College.
