home of the Blue Streaks

Cuyahoga Gold Bowl: 2005

Nov. 12 - Finnie Stadium

Final: B-W 17, JCU 14

The team with the pressure off (Baldwin-Wallace had its run of 38 consecutive winning seasons come to an official end the week before) outplayed the team with the pressure on (with a 7-2 record, John Carroll still was harboring postseason hopes) in this game that hinged on big plays and turnovers. B-W scored on its first possession, then increased its lead to 14-0 when, after a JCU fumble on a punt return, Mickey Mental found Mick Reilly from four yards out. A JCU touchdown, which was set up by a Yellow Jacket fumble, cut the lead to 14-7 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Blue Streaks were driving in an effort to tie the score, but another turnover led to the Yellow Jackets driving the other way to set up a Mike Anthony 41-yard field goal which turned out to be the game-winning points. An early fourth quarter touchdown by the Streaks cut the lead to three points, but then the B-W defense stiffened to preserve the victory.
