Cuyahoga Gold Bowl: 2016
Sept. 17 – Don Shula Stadium
Final: JCU 17, BW 10
Trailing 10-3 with less than 5 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the hopes of John Carroll seemed to be dwindling rapidly. However, much like the rest of the 2016 season, the Blue Streaks would storm back. The John Carroll defense would force a turnover to put their offense on the opponents 17-yard line. From there, Junior Sam Kukura would plow away a 13-yard run, followed by a 4-yard touchdown connection between Redshirt Freshman Anthony Moeglin and Senior Marshall Howell. Now tied at 10, the tenacious Blue Streak defense would come up big once more. After backing the Yellow Jackets up to their own 10-yard line on third down, Freshman Jimmy Thomas of the John Carroll Defense would recover a mishandled snap in the endzone to give the Blue Streaks the 17-10 advantage and victory. When asked afterwards about John Carroll's effort, Head Coach Tom Arth replied, "I don't know if I've ever been more proud of a group of players in my entire coaching career. To see them fight, stay together, the will they displayed. It is a remarkable testament to the character of our team."
