Pat Tatom enters his 17th season as part of the John Carroll University baseball staff during the 2025-26 school year, with a coaching hiatus in 2013 and 2019.
The Blue Streaks have won two OAC Tournament titles during Tatom's time with the Blue Streaks, and made two NCAA postseason appearances in 2014 and 2023.
With Tatom's aid, Matthew Aukerman (2023) and Andrew Doring (2015) won Kent Tekulve OAC Pitcher-of-the-Year honors.
Prior to JCU
During off-seasons, Tatom attended Marietta College, earning a degree in Economics and Business Administration in 1976.
At Marietta, he was an assistant to coach Don Schaly. He coordinated their fall program and played a key coaching role in the 1975 season when the Pioneers compiled a 44-5 record before losing to Florida Southern in the final game of the Division II World Series.
Playing Career
Tatom signed a professional contract with the Oakland Athletics while he was at Roger Ludlowe High School in Fairfield, Connecticut.
He was a minor league pitcher for the Athletics for five seasons between 1969-73, playing for the Birmingham Athletics (AA) in parts of two seasons. Tatom was a member of the 40-man roster of the Worlds Series Champion Athletics in 1972 and 1973.
Personal
Tatom retired as President and CEO of WCI Steel Inc. in Warren, Ohio in 2007. He began his career in sales with the LTV Steel Company in Cleveland in 1976 and joined WCI Steel as General Manager of Sales in 1988. Progressing through the ranks, Pat was named President and CEO in 2004.
Pat and his wife, Susan, reside in South Russell.
