Jack Walz III enters his second season as an assistant coach on the John Carroll University football coaching staff in the 2020-21 school year. He will serve as an assistant coach specializing in coaching the wide receivers.
During his first year with the Blue Streaks, the receivers found success under his direction and first year starting quarterback Jake Floriea. Senior Evan Nugent was recognized as All-OAC for the first time, leading the team in receptions (30), reciving yards (314), and touchdown receptions.
The John Carroll offense saw an emergence from freshman Joey Torok (26 receptions, 444 receiving yards) and sophomore Keyshawn Colmon (16 receptions, 276 receiving yards, and 4 touchdowns) under Walz's tutelage.
Walz came to JCU as a former wide receiver at Bowling Green State University. In five seasons with the Falcons football program, he earned four varsity letters. Walz primarily played on special teams as a three-year starter on four different units.
As a member of the 2014 Camelia Bowl and 2015 MAC Conference Championship teams, Walz played on full athletic scholarship during his time at BGSU. As he transitioned to coaching, Walz spent half of his senior season as a student coaching assistant with the team.
Walz is a native of Brooklyn, Ohio, and an alumnus of Lakewood St. Ed's. While playing for Rick Finotti — the former head coach of St. Ed's — he aided the team in advancing to the postseason three times.
In addition to his coaching career, Walz interned at Mercy Health in Toledo, Ohio, serving as a team physician for Central Catholic High School in Spring of 2018. He also interned with the BGSU Strength & Conditioning Program under Billy Yates, who is now a member of the Detroit Lions coaching staff.
