Former University of Iowa standout defensive lineman Joe Gaglione has joined the John Carroll University football staff as a defensive assistant for the 2014 season. Gaglione will assist with the outside linebackers.
The standout had tryouts with the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles after his career with the Hawkeyes.
Gaglione, a 2012 honorable mention All-Big Ten selection ranked 11th in the conference with five sacks as a senior. He was named an honorable mention defensive lineman player of the week by the CFPA for his play against Northern Illinois recording six tackles including three for loss. For the year, the Novelty, Ohio native started in 10 games and recorded 51 tackles including nine for loss.
As a junior, Gaglione played in 10 games seeing limited action and finishing with seven tackles.
The Lake Catholic product was the Division III Defensive Player of the Year by the Lake County Touchdown Club as a senior. He was tabbed as the Lake/Geauga County Defensive Player of the Year by the Cleveland Touchdown Club Charities. Gaglione was an All-Ohio selection as a senior after recording 22 sacks.
Gaglione graduated with a degree in sociology.
