Tim Heffernan returns to his alma mater in 2015 to take over the duties of coaching the offensive line.
The former three-year letterwinner for the Blue Streaks arrives at JCU after coaching at Mercyhurst in 2014, where he was in charge of tight ends and assisted with the offensive line.
The native of Powell, Ohio, also spent one season as a graduate assistant at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. In his only season there, Heffernan coached the offensive line and recruited in the Cincinnati, Columbus, and Dayton areas.Â
Heffernan began his coaching career on the high school ranks as the offensive line and linebackers coach for the freshman team at St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus, Ohio. He also served as an advanced scout on the varsity staff.
A 2010 graduate of John Carroll with a degree in history and a double minor in communications and philosophy, Heffernan started over 20 games on the offensive line for the Blue Streaks from 2007-2009. In 2009, Heffernan led the conference in fewest sacks allowed, allowing just one sack every 45.6 plays.
Heffernan played at St. Francis DeSales High School, where he started 40 games and led the team to a state runner-up finish in 2005.
Heffernan’s brother, Terry, is an assistant offensive coach for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League. Â
