Tyler Hughes '22 finished his second season on the coaching staff for John Carroll Football in the 2024-25 academic year. He worked with the tight ends this season as a graduate assistant.
During his second campaign on the coaching staff, Hughes guided multiple tight ends to productive seasons. Kenneth Rawls finished second on the Blue Streaks in receiving touchdowns as a true red-zone threat this season. Rawls was named to the All-OAC first team for his efforts this season. Jon Tomcufcik also had a notable season under Hughes, as he was named to the OAC honorable mention this season.
Hughes contributed to a highly potent passing attack for the Blue Streaks, as they ranked first in the OAC and third nationally in pass efficiency offense. The Streaks also ranked third in passing offense, scoring offense, and total offense.
Individually, Matt Wrather won D3football.com and AFCA All-America honors, the OAC's Ken Wable Offensive Lineman of the Year award, and College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® distinction. Matthew Russo earned First Team All-OAC and Second Team All-Region status. Luke Gibbons and Nathan Kovach tabbed Second Team All-OAC honors.
Hughes is a 2022 John Carroll grad, majoring in Excercise Science. He played tight end for the Blue Streaks. Hughes is a native of Cuyahoga Heights, playing under Al Martin at Cuyahoga Heights High School and appearing in two state championship games. Following a strong playing career at John Carroll, Hughes coached at Ohio Dominican University in the spring of 2023. At ODU, Hughes served as the Offensive Graduate Assistant and spent time as the Tight Ends Coach and Assistant Quarterbacks Coach.
Hughes is pursuing his Master’s in Sports Leadership to continue his career in coaching.
