Raymond Sterling enters his third year as the Head Athletic Equipment and Facilities Manager during the 2022-23 school year.

At John Carroll, Sterling handles equipment needs, event staffing, and venue management of Don Shula Stadium. Amongst his chief responsibilities is equipping the JCU Football program. 

Sterling came to John Carroll with over 25 years of experience in professional sports spending time in the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB as well as various levels of minor league baseball. Most recently, Sterling spent time with the Baltimore Brigade of the Arena Football League and D.C. Defenders of the XFL. 

Sterling has also spent time with several minor league hockey clubs, including teams from the Southern Professional Hockey League, Western States Hockey League, American Hockey League, and International Hockey League.

Before the new millennium, Sterling held various equipment roles with San Jose State University, the San Jose Jammers from the Continental Basketball Association, and the Las Vegas Posse which was one of the only Canadian Football League teams in the United States.

Some other highlights throughout Sterling's career have included working for the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL as an equipment assistant and being a clubhouse attendant for the San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies of the MLB.

He is a member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (A.E.M.A.), Professional Hockey Athletic Training Society (P.H.A.T.S.) and Society of Professional Hockey Equipment Managers (S.P.E.H.M.) organizations.


Sterling is a Certified Athletic Equipment Manager.

Hailing from Palo Alto, California, Sterling attended Fullerton College where he studied Criminal Justice. He has a daughter, Sophia.
