Pete Moran

Pete Moran '08 enters his ninth season as the head coach of the men's basketball program in the 2025-26 school year.

  • 4 All-OAC selections (Luke Frazier, Henry Raynor, Chase Toppin,Will Yontek)  
  • Luke Frazier won OAC Player of the Year honors, just the third Blue Streak to win the award

  • Upset eventual NCAA Elite 8 qualifier Marietta College in the quarterfinals of the OAC tournament
  • Overcame injuries to win the final four home OAC games to qualify for the conference tournament
  • Guided Sean Flannery & Jimmy Berger to All-OAC selections 
2017-18 (25-6, 14-4 OAC) OAC Regular Season and Tournament Champions – NCAA Sweet 16
  • Averaged the fourth most points per game in the nation (98.1)
  • Ranked 13th in D3hoops.com final poll
  • Guided Sean Flannery to the best assist to turnover ratio in all of college basketball (5.65)

Moran succeeded his father, Mike Moran, who held a 25-year tenure at the helm of the JCU men's basketball team. However, Pete was not a new addition to the coaching staff. He previously served as an assistant coach at his alma mater for five seasons before being promoted.

Prior to joining the John Carroll staff, Moran was the head coach of Berkshire High School in Burton, Ohio from 2008-11. During his time at Berkshire, Moran led the Badgers to three Chagrin Valley Conference (CVC) titles and two district championships (2010, 2011). He was named CVC Coach of the Year three times, OHSAA Division III District Coach of the Year twice (2009, 2011), and News-Herald Coach of the Year in 2010.
 
Moran was a part of the most historic stretch in JCU men's basketball (2004-2007).

A 2008 graduate of John Carroll, Moran earned his Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science. He then went on to obtain a Master's degree in Physical Education, Health, and Recreation from Emporia State University in 2016.
 
Moran and his wife, Christina (Saluan) Moran PhD '07, have two sons, Thomas and Ernie, and one daughter, Jolene.
