2022 Cross Country
- Capped off his senior season in true storytale fashion, placing 31st at the 2022 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in a time of 25:30.9 to earn All-American honors (11/19/202). Despite a femoral neck stress fracture, hip impingement, and torn labrum earlier in the calendar year, Backus became the program's fifth ever All-American.
- Raced to a 6th place finish and big PR time of 24:32.3 at the 2022 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional (11/12/2022). Backus earned All-Region honors and bested his previous 8k mark by over a minute (74.3 seconds).
- Earned second team All-OAC honors with a 17th place finish amongst 159 conference competitors during the 2022 OAC Championships, finishing in a time of 27:08.8 (10/29/2022)
- Placed 32nd out of 299 total runners in the varsity division of the 2022 Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble, racing a time of 25:57.0 (10/15/2022)
- Finished in a 8k PR time of 25:46.6 in the open race at the Paul Short Invitational, placing 142nd amongst 533 total runners (09/30/2022). This time improved on his previous mark by an impressive 10.6 seconds.
- Embarking on his senior campaign, Backus raced a time of 29:07.42 at the MSU Spartan Invitational, besting 57 runners in the field (09/16/2022)
2021 Cross Country
- In his season debut, Backus finished 77th at the All-Ohio Collegiate Championships in the open race with a time of 28:58.0. (9/17)
- Placed 65th at the 2021 Paul Short Invitational with a time of 25:57.2 in the open race. (10/01)
- Placed 94th amongst 306 overall runners with a time of 27:38.3 at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble in the varsity race. (10/16)
2019 Cross Country
- Finished 14th in the first meet of the season at the Sudeck Classic Stampede with a time of 20.04.3 (8/31)
- Competed in the varsity race at the Knight Invitational, posting a time of 27:02.2 (9/7)
- Placed 194th overall at the All-Ohio Championships, clocking in with a time of 29:27.7 (9/28)
- Finished 10th in the open race at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble, running a personal best time of 26:31.2 (10/19)
