Boomer Fechko enters his first year as Men's Wrestling Associate Head Coach at John Carroll in 2025-26. He was hired in April 2025.
Fechko last served as a head coach at Lake Erie College, guiding the Storm for three seasons. Fechko guided the Storm to three strong campaigns. This past season, Lake Erie garnered rankings consistently in the top 25 of Division II and earned an NCAA Runner-Up wrestler. The Broadview Heights native also coached an All-American in 2023. Fechko arrived at Lake Erie after working as the head wrestling recruiting coach for Next College Student Athlete.
Previously, Fechko served as the assistant wrestling coach at Cleveland State from 2018-2021.During the 2020-21 campaign, Fechko helped to steer the Vikings to two Mid-American Conference finalists, three National Qualifiers, third-highest team GPA in the country (highest ever), recruited and brought in a Senior National Champion, a State Champion, and two nationally ranked wrestlers. In 2019-20, CSU notched 7 placers at the MAC Championships, finishing in the top half of the team standings after being picked to finish last in the coaches’ rankings. Fechko mentored an Honorable Mention All-American (via the National Wrestling Coaches Association). Additionally, Cleveland State’s nine wins tied its total from the previous three campaigns combined, marking its highest such total in 13 years. The Vikings posted the program’s best conference win total in over 15 years, including a comeback win over local rival Kent State, CSU’s first win over the Golden Flashes since 2003-04. In 2018-19, Fechko coached a youthful squad, including a pair of talented freshmen that posted 18 and 17 wins.
Fechko served as the associate head coach at Buffalo during the 2017-18 campaign, his third year on staff at the school, primarily working with the Bulls’ lightweights. He worked as the recruiting coordinator and the team’s academic liaison, while playing a key role with all aspects of the program. Fechko helped the team’s 133-pounder become just the fifth wrestler in Buffalo history to qualify for the NCAA Championships on three occasions. The Bulls also tabbed two student-athletes on the NWCA All-Academic Team and four on the Academic All-MAC Team. In his second season, the Bulls accumulated a dual record of 11-6, their second straight season with double-digit wins. Buffalo also notched a school-record four MAC wins. In his first season at Buffalo, Fechko guided two grapplers to NCAA Championships appearances. He also helped lead the Bulls to a 10-9 dual meet record, the highest win total since the 2003-04 season, along with the program’s first win over a nationally ranked foe in six seasons. Recruiting classes that Fechko was responsible for compiling were ranked top-20 by both Intermat and The Open Mat.
Fechko joined Buffalo’s staff after one year as head coach at Dakota Wesleyan in 2014-15. The Tigers tallied two qualifiers to the NAIA National Championships, including an All-American. Fechko also ensured Dakota Wesleyan posted the seventh-highest team GPA in the NAIA.
Fechko served as a volunteer assistant coach at Bloomsburg during the 2012-13 season, guiding six Huskies to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Bloomsburg secured a 17-3 dual meet record and was the EWL Dual Meet Champion. Before his time at Bloomsburg, Fechko worked as a graduate assistant at Dakota Wesleyan from 2010-2012, playing a key role in recruiting and day-to-day operations. He helped DWU earn 15 selections to NAIA Nationals.
Fechko also had coaching stints at Quincy High School (Quincy, Calif.) and Brunswick High School early in his career.
As a wrestler in college, Fechko garnered All-American honors for the University of Findlay before transferring to Heidelberg, where he qualified for the NCAA Championships once again.
Fechko graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Heidelberg University in 2009. Later, he earned a Master of Arts degree in educational policy and administration from Dakota Wesleyan in 2012.
