Heidi Benson and Katie Mathews were as good as advertised, and Heather Gilmour kept on her career-long roll as John Carroll cruised to  dominating 123-79 victory at Wilmington to open the 2007-2008 season Friday night in Wilmington, Ohio.

Benson and Mathews are just freshmen but showed a great deal of promise in their collegiate debuts. Benson won the 200-meter free in 2:20.83 by a margin of 10 full seconds. She also won with 16 seconds to spare in the 400-meter free (4:56.50).

Mathews was a double winner, claiming first place in the 200-meter IM (2:40.47) and the 100-meter fly (1:12.75).

Gilmour, who is a perfect six-for-six in OAC Championship races, started off her junior season with a victory in the 100-meter free (1:05.91).

Also winning for JCU was junior Kim Kern in the 100-meter back (1:16.58).
