The John Carroll men's soccer team had not lost a home match to crosstown and conference rival Baldwin-Wallace since joining the Ohio Athletic Conference in 1989.
It didn't happen in 2007, either.
Scoring its two goals in the first 21 minutes, the Blue Streaks would hold on for a 2-1 victory to improve to 25-6-1 all-time against the Yellow Jackets.
The Blue Streaks started early with a goal just 3:38 into the game courtsey of junior Scott McKinney.
Nearing the 21-minute mark of the first half, JCU's leading scorer Alex Bernot increased the lead to 2-0 with his fifth goal of the season.
The Yellow Jackets made 11 attempts on goal the first half to Carroll's eight, but were unable to break-through JCU's defensive efforts
Just 40 seconds after reterning to the field, Baldwin-Wallace suprised the Blue Streaks with Brian Sugerman's goal cut the lead to 2-1 at the start of the second half. However, the Blue Streaks would not allow B-W to score another goal over the final 44 minutes.
Baldwin-Wallace had more shots (19-14) than John Carroll, but Blue Streak keeper Matt DeMarchi was up to the task as he made eight saves this evening to pick up the win.
John Carroll remains undefeated in the OAC at 2-0, and also improves to 5-5 overall, 2-0 OAC.
