Streaks Sweep Marietta To Conclude Regular Season; Will Be 7th Seed In Upcoming OAC Volleyball Tournament

The visiting Blue Streaks made the three-hour bus ride down to Marietta worth every minute, as John Carroll overpowered the host Pioneers with an emphatic 30-25, 31-29, 30-22 sweep to conclude the 2007 regular season Friday night in Marietta, Ohio.

With the victory, JCU has locked down the #7 seed in next week's Ohio Athletic Conference postseason tournament. The Blue Streaks will travel to Mount Union for a quarterfinal round match on Tuesday, October 30.

In tonight's OAC finale, Meagan Gambone carved up the Pioneers with a match-high 15 kills. She also produced a team-leading five blocks. Meredith McDiarmid had 43 assists to generate the attack.

JCU had ten aces, led by Kate Schafer and Celia Mastroine with three apiece.

Marietta was paced by 14 kills from Paige Williams, 25 digs from Casey Davis and a match-high 44 assists by Caity Shirk.

The win improves John Carroll's record to 12-16 overall and 3-6 in the OAC. Marietta falls to 12-15 and 2-7 in leage action.
