The John Carroll University women's swimming and diving team may prefer to view the silver lining in light of a close 149-145 loss to Oberlin Saturday at the William H. Johnson Nataorium.

At the end of November, the very same Oberlin team defeated the Blue Streaks by a 145-93 score at the Veale Classic held at Case Reserve.

The Blue Streaks started the meet strong winning with a first place finish from the team of Kim Kern, Kristen Kovach, Katie Mathews and Andrea Kovacs in the 200 yard medley relay, clocked in a time 1:57.65.

However, Oberlin quickly gathered momentum and captured a win in the 200 yard freestyle with Sara Kadi coming in first place for the Yeowomen (2:01.00).

The JCU women continued to battle hard to regain the lead, and tied the score after nine events. In the 200 yard Breaststroke, Kovach's time of 2:45.24 was good enough for second and tied the score at 102.

The Yeowomen would pull away late, however, using a 1-2 sweep in the 400 IM to cement the victory.

The JCU women did however tally six first place showings. Picking up first place times was Kovach in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:12.63), Kovacs in the 50 yard freestyle (26.27) and Lauren Singley in the 1 meter and 3-meter diving events.

Heather Gilmour grabbed three second place efforts in her individual events (200 yard freestyle, 50 yard freestyle, and 100 yard freestyle).

Along with Gilmour, four other Blue Streaks finished with second place times in their events; #Heidi Benson (1000 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle), Kovach (200 yard breaststroke); Kern (100 yard backstroke, 200 yard butterfly, and 100 yard butterfly), and Mathews (200 yard backstroke).
