Box Score

Playing at home for just the second time this season, John Carroll used relentless defensive pressure to run its winning streak to a season-long three games with an 82-57 victory over the Nazareth College Golden Flyers on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match-up at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.

On their home court for just the second time this season, the Blue Streaks used a big run over the final seven minutes of the opening half to establish a comfortable 38-24 margin. The Streaks strung together another huge run over the opening 5:06 of the second half to put the contest out of reach.

The Golden Flyers scored first the first points of the game on a Jamie Malloy jumper, but that would be the only lead of the game by Nazareth. JCU responded with the next six points over 54 second stretch and would hold the lead from there on out.

Soon after John Carroll established a nine-point lead (20-11) on a lay-up by Erin Zahariev at the 8:14 mark, the Golden Flyers would clip it down to four on free throws by Malloy and a three-pointer by Kelly Dunne that made the score 20-16 with exactly seven minutes showing on the first half clock.

Lana Kiko would hit a three-pointer for the Blue Streaks on the next trip down the floor, starting a stretch where JCU would score 18 of the final 26 points of the first half.

Leading by 14 at the break, Caitlin Sureck and Liana Jennings each scored four points as part of the opening 16-3 run to opn the second half. John Carroll's advantage never dipped below 22 points the rest of the game.

Jennings led John Carroll (5-5) with 13 points and five rebounds. Sureck followed with 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists and four blocks. Laura Gruber came off the bench to make 5-8 from the field for her ten points.

The Blue Streaks shot over 47 percent from the field (32-67) for the game and forced the Golden Flyers into 26 turnovers. JCU also won the battle of the boards, 44-35.

For Nazareth (2-6), which dropped its fourth consecutive game, Malloy had a game-high 17 points to go along with five rebounds and one assist. The only Golden Flyers player in double figures, Malloy was 8-10 from the free throw line.
