The senior members of the Heidelberg College men's basketball team began their careers as underdogs whenever they played John Carroll.

Wednesday night, the Student Princes played like a top dog in a 104-72 victory over JCU in an Ohio Athletic Conference match-up held in Tiffin.

The four seniors in the Heidelberg line-up contributed 69 of the Student Princes 104 points. Although the 104 points was not the most the Student Princes have scored against John Carroll, the 32-point margin of victory was its largest.

The contest was relatively close over the first nine minutes with two ties, two lead changes and the margin staying within seven points.

Derek Smith dropped in a lay-up at the 11:36 mark to make the score 19-14 in favor of Heidelberg, but on the next trip down, Student Princes sophomore Jim Smalley made his only field goal of the game from three-point range, kick starting a 31-9 run over the next ten minutes that salted the game away. The main culprits were seniors Andrew Lemmon, Shawn Shriver and Greg Tyson, who scored 21 of the points during that stretch.

Heidelberg would take a 51-27 lead into the half,.

John Carroll would make a decent run to climb back into the game in the second half. On four different occasions, John Carroll whittled the deficit down to 13 points, the last of which was a TJ DiSanto jumper with 9:13 to play that made the score 71-58.

From there, however, Heidelberg would outscore the Blue Streaks, 33-14. Tyson put an exclamation point on the effort when he scored Heidelberg's 100th point with 2:28 to play and his team ahead by 36.

Heidelberg (10-2, 4-1 OAC) had four players in double figures, as Lemmon (20), fellow senior Brian Schmidt (16), Tyson (14) and junior Chad Szalay (13) helped the Student Princes shoot 37-30 (.529) for the game.

John Carroll (5-6, 2-3 OAC) received a career-high 20 points from freshman Maurice HaynesDonte Ledwell added 10 points as the only other Blue Streak in double figures.
