Sensing urgency after falling behind by two goals to a team with just two wins, an inspired second half effort carried the John Carroll Blue Streaks back from the brink for what would become a 2-2 tie at Marietta Friday afternoon.

JCU, which had not lost back-to-back matches since October 13 and 17 of last season, was faced with that prospect after its normally air-tight defense gave up two first half goals. Jessica Martinez scored in the 12th minute and Corryn Muench put one in in the 31st minute as a stunned Blue Streak squad fell behind by a two-score margin for the first time all year.

After being outshot (6-5) and outmuscled (foul count was 7-1 in favor of the hosts) over the first 45 minutes, a much different JCU side emerged in the second half.

It did not take long for John Carroll to slice the Marietta lead in half. Less than two full minutes into the period, Elizabeth Daigler took a cross from Eleanor Sovacool and fired in a shot for her fourth goal of the year.

It did, however, take a while for JCU to notch the equalizer despite what amounted to 19 shots taken in the second half. One of the last of those 19 was taken by Erika Eberhardt at the 85:08 mark. She followed in a bobble by the Pioneers keeper and popped in her second goal of the season to tie the match at 2-2.

Neither team could break the deadlock in the overtime.

JCU is now 8-2-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the OAC, while Marietta's record is now 2-8-2 and 0-1-2 in league play.
