Box Score

Paced by four players in double figures, John Carroll broke through in a big way for its first win of the 2008-2009 campaign by blasting host Kalamazoo, 90-64, in the second and final game of the 2008 Hornet Tip-Off Classic Saturday in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

JCU trailed briefly in the early going by an 8-6 count, but a lay-up by Caitlin Hubach and a three-pointer by #Rachael# Price kick started a 12-2 run. The Blue Streaks continued to build on that lead and took a 40-29 advantage into the intermission.

It was still a ten-point game at the 14:27 mark of the second half when Kalamazoo's Briana Hendrix completed a three-point play to carve the JCU lead down to 50-40.

But the Blue Streaks scored the next nine points, capped by a Lana Kiko three-point field goal that made the score 59-40 with 11:27 to play. The John Carroll lead never dipped below 15 points the rest of the way.

John Carroll (1-2), which shot 21-40 (.525) in the second half, was paced by 14 points from Price, and 13 points and a game-high nine assists from Lee Jennings (who was named to the all-tournament team). Hubach (12) and Laura Gruber (10) also reached double figures for the Blue Streaks.

Kalamazoo (0-2) was led by Hendrix, who scored a game-high 23 points.
