Early Goal Holds Up As John Carroll Women's Soccer Knocks Off Mount Union

Val Korb was part of an effort that made an early goal stand up in a 1-0 win over Mount Union

An early goal scored within the first six minutes of the contest by host John Carroll would hold up as the lone tally in a 1-0 victory over Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference women's soccer match staged Tuesday night at Don Shula Stadium.

Box Score

Caitlyn Walton (Fairport, NY, Fairport) connected on a free kick at the 39:06 mark of the first half. It was just the second shot taken in the match.

That 1-0 lead would survive the remaining 84 minutes of the contest. Mount Union would send eight shots at the JCU goal, but just two in the second half. Molly Gradowski (Bethesda, MD, Georgetown Visitation) made three saves and posting her first shutout since Sept. 11, 2009.

John Carroll is now 3-8-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the OAC, while Mount Union drops to 3-7-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the conference
