Melvin Vazquez had a solid Saturday in John Carroll's win over Oberlin with a first-place finish as an individual and part of a relay
The John Carroll men's swimming & diving squad rallied from a day one defeat to knock off Oberlin on day two and take third place at the 2009 Veale Classic hosted by Case Western Reserve University Friday and Saturday in Cleveland, Ohio.

JCU fell by a 132-104 score to the host Spartans on Friday night, then bounced back with an emphatic 146-87 victory over Oberlin College Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Streaks produced four wins against Case, starting with a victory by
Eric Davis in the 200 Free (1:48.43).
Stanton Kochanek won both the 1-meter (164.35 points) and 3-meter (168.35 points) diving competitions.
Davis was part of JCU's final win of the night, a victory in the 200 Free Relay as he teamed up with
Alex Vereshchagin,
Jimmy Ranallo and
Nick Grady to win the race in a time of 1:29.88.
In facing Oberlin, the Blue Streaks had seven first-place finishes to their credit.
Blake Pinchot, Melvin Vasquez,
John Reynolds and Grady won by a half second in the 400 Medley Relay (3:50.04).
Ranallo had two individual first place finishes, winning the 200 Free (1:49.39) and the 500 Free (4:58.35), while Davis added another win in the 200 Fly (2:07.36).
Vazquez earned a first place finish in the 200 Breast (2:21.42), as did
David Essi in 1-meter diving (225.95) and Kochanek in 3-meter diving (225.95).
