Box Score
John Carroll and Case Reserve combined for 30 runs and 35 hits, but the best news coming out of today's game played between the two Cleveland rivals for the Blue Streaks was that they were on the right side of an 18-12 score Thursday afternoon at Nobby's Ballpark.
JCU actually led 15-3 midway through the seventh before settling on the six-run final margin.
The Blue Streaks scored early and often. in the first inning alone, tom hickey drove in two runs while
John Hastings (Pittsburgh, PA, Fox Chapel) and
Christopher Cairo (Darien, IL, Hinsdale South) each drove in one.
John Skomra (Buffalo, NY, Canisius) had an RBI as part of a two-run second, and
Michael Krainz (Walton Hills, OH, Cleveland St. Ignatius) added an RBI hit in the third as John Carroll raced out to a 7-0 advantage.
After JCU scored three runs on four hits in the top of the seventh, they appeared to be in command by moving ahead. But Case made things dicey with a single run in the bottom of the seventh and seven runs (just two earned) in the bottom of the eight to pull to within 15-11.
Just as quickly as drama entered the affair, it would leave thanks to Michael Carbo's two run double in the top of the ninth.
Chris Koller (Buffalo, NY, St. Joseph Collegiate Institute), the last of the five pitchers to enter the game for JCU, earned the win as he improved to 3-2 on the year.
As a team, John Carroll ran its record to 21-8 on the season.
