Overtime Heartbreak Strikes Women's Soccer As Set Pieces Doom Effort In Ada

Kayla Acklin's goal in the 61st minute forced overtime Saturday at Ohio Northern
Set plays, including one in overtime, spelled doom for the John Carroll women's soccer team Saturday afternoon in Ada.

The host Polar Bears broke a 1-1 tie by scoring off a throw in during the 95th minute, to end JCU's five-match winning streak with a 2-1 decision in a key Ohio Athletic Conference showdown between two teams among the top three in the league standings.

Box Score

Ohio Northern scored first in the match, using a corner kick to set up the play. Abbie Schauble chased after her own corner kick and converted the point when JCu could not clear the ball out of the box.

It took until the 61st minute for the Blue Streaks to gain the equalizer, as Kayla Acklin pounced on a losse ball and struck a shot from 15 yards out.

Both teams struggled in the final 29 minutes to get shots off, each attempting just one.

In the overtime period, the Polar Bears had all three shots attempted, and the third was the charm. Sami Atkinson took Nicole Grant's throw in, dribbled on the left side, and buried the shot.

Ohio Northern moves to 10-5-1 overall and 5-1-1 (2nd) in league action

John Carroll, which is now 0-4-2 in overtime matches this season, falls to 8-7-2 and 5-2 (T-3rd) in the OAC
