Women's Soccer Can't Overcome History at Wooster

The Blue Streaks have beaten the Fighting Scots on the road just once in 21 meetings

WOOSTER – Winning at Wooster is a tall task.

The pitch is not an easy one to play on for the Blue Streaks. Historically, JCU possesses just a 1-17-3 record at The College of Wooster, with the last win coming in 1998.

John Carroll Women's Soccer fought hard, but dropped a 1-0 decision to the Fighting Scots in a North Coast Athletic Conference match with big implications.

With the loss, the Blue Streaks now sit outside of the NCAC Tournament picture. But, one match still remains on the slate next Saturday.

After a pair of misses, the Fighting Scots scored in the ninth minute. A free kick clanged off the right post before Julia Struck descended on the ball and knocked in the rebound for the early goal.

Eight minutes later, JCU tallied its first shot on goal, with Julia Niehaus doing the honors. The first half proceeded without much action the rest of the way, without any shots on net. Wooster owned a 9-4 advantage in shots.

Madison Skeese made her first save early in the second half, and then another about a third of the way through the stanza. Brooke Berkowitz tried to get the offense doing but Wooster made a save and the resulting corner didn't result in anything.

JCU continued to press, looking for the tying tally. The Blue Streaks got the better of the chances in the second half, pressuring the Fighting Scots.

But on the road, trying to tie it up late against the Fighting Scots proved to be too tall a task, as the Blue Streaks fell to 2-2-2 in league play on the year.

Next Up
The Blue Streaks will close out the regular season on Saturday at DePauw. JCU needs a win and an Ohio Wesleyan loss/tie to make the conference tournament.
