John Carroll scored 15 of the first 18 points in a wire-to-wire effort Wednesday night at the DeCarlo Varsity Center, as John Carroll rolled to a 90-65 victory over Mount Union in its Ohio Athletic Conference home opener.

Box Score

The Blue Streaks wasted little time in getting on a roll. Maurice Haynes II scored the six of the first ten points and Joe Meyer added a three-pointer to cap a 15-3 run over the first five minutes of the contest.

Mount Union chipped away and got the Blue Streak lead down to six points (24-18) when Tyler Fausnight completed a three-point play with 9:11 left in the opening period, but JCU used a 23-14 run to close out the half to put some distance between the two teams. Conor Sweeney's lay-up in the closing seconds staked John Carroll a 47-32 halftime advantage.

The Purple Raiders showed life to start the second using back-to-back three pointers by T.J. Gillespie and Dave Pellerite to slice the JCU lead down to 48-38 after only 92 seconds had expired.

All drama was removed, however, as the Blue Streaks would score 15 of the next 18 points to build its advantage to 63-41 with just under 16 minutes left in the final stanza. Reigning OAC Player of the Week Michael Hartnett scored five points during the run.

Mount Union never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

A total of 12 players scored for John Carroll (6-1, 2-0 OAC), led by 15 points from Conor Tilow. Haynes and Corey Shontz added 13 while Hartnett contributed 11. Kenny Janz was the high rebounder with seven.

JCU was 31-59 (.525) from the field in topping 90 points for the fourth time in its first seven games this season.

Mount Union (2-5, 1-1 OAC) was led by a double-double from pellerite, who had 15 points and a game-best ten rebounds.
