Senior Chris Koller earned the win in John Carroll's 7-6 victory over #4 ranked College of Wooster
For the third consecutive game, the John Carroll baseball team came up with some late game magic to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat.
This time, it was a "rabbit" of the four-run variety, as the Blue Streaks overcame a 6-3 deficit in the ninth inning to upset fourth-ranked Wooster, 7-6, at Art Murray Field Wednesday.
Box Score
The rally started with a
John Hastings (Pittsburgh, PA, Fox Chapel) single to lead off the ninth. With one out,
Tim O'Brien (Chicago, IL, Loyola Academy) and pinch hitter
Chris Larry (Grand Island, NY, Buffalo St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) strung together back-to-back singles, the second of which scored Hastings to cut the Wooster lead to 6-4.
Ryan Pacyga (Forest Park, IL, Nazareth Academy), who had hit a home run in his previous at bat, would repeat the act by blasting his team-leading sixth round tripper over the fence in right-center to give JCU a 7-6 lead.
Chris Koller (Buffalo, NY, St. Joseph Collegiate Institute), who had come on in relief during the eighth innings, worked a scoreless ninth to preserve the win. Two runners reached base via a walk and a hit by pitch, but Koller induced a fly out from Shane Swearingen (who had homered in his previous trip to the plate) to end the contest.
Pacyga ended the game 2-4 with five RBI.
Tom Hickey was also 2-4 at the plate.
John Carroll moves to 13-7 on the year with the win, while Wooster -- which began the week ranked fourth in this week's D3baseball.com top-25 poll, fell to 16-5 with the loss.
