Mari O'Neill was not alone in helping JCU forge 0-0 tie with nationally ranked Allegheny College.
Play great defense, and it is tough to lose. At the same time, struggle on offense and it is tough to win.

The John Carroll University women's soccer team found that out on Wednesday afternioon when they played to a 0-0 draw with the #16 ranked team in Division III Allegheny College. JCU left Meadville, Pennsylvania, with their second tie of the season - and second in the past seven days that ended in a 0-0 score.

Box Score

The host-Gators had a late scoring chance with seven seconds to go, but the ball clanked off the post and the game ended. The shutout was the fourth of the season and 12th in her career for senior goalkeeper Molly Gradowski.

It wasn't for lack of effort as the Gators outshot JCU 26-2 from the end of the first half until the conclusion of the game. Defense, however, has been JCU's calling card this season. They haven't allowed a goal in four of their last six games..

The tie moves JCU's record to 3-5-2, while Allegheny -- while remaining unbeaten -- had its nine match win streak snapped. The Gators are 9-0-1 and still have yet to allow a single goal in the 2010 campaign.

This was the Blue Streaks' non-conference finale before they open Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they host the Otterbein College Cardinals at 2:30 p.m. inside Don Shula Stadium,
