Blue Streaks Bounce Back With Convincing Victory Over Terriers

David Sved (foreground) was part of two winning relay teams for the Blue Streaks against Hiram.
Sometimes, the best remedy for a defeat is to compete again right away.  Less than 24 hours after a close loss to Oberlin College, the John Carroll men's swimming & diving team had a chance to get back in the pool, and the results were exhilarating.

Results

The Blue Streaks led after the first event, and went on to top Hiram College, 191-71.

After an opening win in the 200-Meter Medley Relay, the Blue & Gold won two of the next three events to take control of the meet.  Drew Edson (200-Meter Freestyle) and Brendan Schloendorn (50-Meter Backstroke) recorded individual wins during that stretch.

Nick Holvey then took home gold in the 100-Meter Butterfly with a time of 1:05.22, edging out teammates Michael Goggins (1:10.22) and Alex Vereshchagin (1:10.30) as the Streaks swept the top three spots.

Schloendorn picked up his second win of the day with a top performance in the 50-Meter Freestyle.

Vereschagin got in the win column in the 100-Meter Freestyle, before Nick Bockanic won the 100-Meter Backstroke and Drew Edson emerged victorious in the 400-Meter Freetstyle, his second first place finish of the afternoon.

Holvey doubled up in wins with a gold in the 100-Meter Individual Medley, and the 200-Meter Freestyle Relay team of Eric Davis, David Sved, Schloendorn, and Vereshchagin finished John Carroll's day in the winner's circle.

The Blue Streaks, who improve to 6-5 overall, will host the Yellow Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace at Johnson Natatorium on Saturday, January 28 to wrap up their regular season schedule.
