Sometimes, the best remedy for a defeat is to compete again right away. Less than 24 hours after a close loss to Oberlin College, the John Carroll men's swimming & diving team had a chance to get back in the pool, and the results were exhilarating.
Results
The Blue Streaks led after the first event, and went on to top Hiram College, 191-71.
After an opening win in the 200-Meter Medley Relay, the Blue & Gold won two of the next three events to take control of the meet.
Drew Edson (200-Meter Freestyle) and Brendan Schloendorn (50-Meter Backstroke) recorded individual wins during that stretch.
Nick Holvey then took home gold in the 100-Meter Butterfly with a time of 1:05.22, edging out teammates Michael Goggins (1:10.22) and
Alex Vereshchagin (1:10.30) as the Streaks swept the top three spots.
Schloendorn picked up his second win of the day with a top performance in the 50-Meter Freestyle.
Vereschagin got in the win column in the 100-Meter Freestyle, before
Nick Bockanic won the 100-Meter Backstroke and
Drew Edson emerged victorious in the 400-Meter Freetstyle, his second first place finish of the afternoon.
Holvey doubled up in wins with a gold in the 100-Meter Individual Medley, and the 200-Meter Freestyle Relay team of
Eric Davis,
David Sved, Schloendorn, and Vereshchagin finished John Carroll's day in the winner's circle.
The Blue Streaks, who improve to 6-5 overall, will host the Yellow Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace at Johnson Natatorium on Saturday, January 28 to wrap up their regular season schedule.
