Amidst the offensive fireworks, defensive lineman Frank Pines got into the scoring act as well with an 82-yard fumble return
Box Score For the third week in a row, the John Carroll Univeristy football team was firing on all cylinders as they defeated Muskingum University 55-28 in New Concord on Homecoming day.
With the ink still drying on the record books after sophomore quarterback
Mark Myers broke the single game passing record in week one, Myers broke his own record by throwing for 474 yards and six touchdowns on the afternoon.
The 474 yards betters his mark of 457 set against St. Norbert in Ireland on August 31, and his six touchdowns matches the mark established by
Tom Arth against Catholic University on September 7, 2002.
Myers's play was contagious as senior wide receiver
Lane Robilotto decided to do some editing of the record book of his own as he broke the single game receiving record -- in the first half. Robilotto had eight catches good for three touchdowns and 257 yard through the first thirty minutes of play. He ultimately finished with ten receptions and 267 yards on the day.
Robilotto's 267-yard effort breaks Sean Williams' standard of 254 set against Ohio Wesleyan on September 10, 1994.
Two of Robilotto's touchdown passes came on 69 and 50 yard passes from Myers in the second quarter.
The first half saw both teams trading punches, as Muskingum quarterback Alex Merideth led the Muskies (1-5, 1-4 OAC) to 14 unanswered points, but
Mark Myers and the
Blue Streaks (4-2, 3-2 OAC) had 24 unanswered points of their own, capped off with 34 alone in the second quarter, and 41-21 lead at the break.
The sophomore class for John Carroll overall had a big day, as wide receiver
Aramis Greenwood hauled in five catches of his own, good for 105 yards and two touchdowns, with the dagger coming late in the second quarter on a 48 yard touchdown pass from Myers.
Defensive back
Marty Gibbons had two interceptions and six tackles on the afternoon, helping to keep the Blue Streaks offense on the field.
Even with all of the effesive highlights, perhaps one of the most dramatic plays of the game came on an 82 yard fumble recovery returned for a touchdown by defensive lineman
Frank Pines in the third quarter.
The Blue Streaks have now won three in a row and as a result, have moved up to sole possession of fifth place in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
