Streaks Stay Unbeaten At Home And In OAC With Blanking Of Muskies In Men's Soccer

Box Score Two unbeaten streaks the John Carroll men's soccer team seems determined to preserve are its home unbeaten streak and its Ohio Athletic Conference unbetaen streak.

Both remained intact at the conclusion of action Saturday at Shula Stadium, as the Blue Streaks were relentless after a slow start to down visiting Muskingum, 3-0.

The Muskies, who had never won in 13 previous visits to play John Carroll, looked to breakthrough early, but Brett Hanna's cannonshot from 20 feet pounded off the left post in the eighth minute.

Dodging a bullet seemed to spark the John Carroll side, as the Blue Streaks pressed until cashing in during the 31st minute. Michael Melfi scored his second goal of the year when he finished off a two-on-one break with Assist by Mariusz Trzeciak.

in the 35th minute, it wasTrzeciak's turn to finish a scoring chance, as he took a feed from Brian Potocnik to put JCU ahead, 2-0.

Matt Brodman scored the lone goal of the second half to complete the scoring in the 89th minute.

Carl Contrascier and Geoff Bloom combined for eight saves and the shutout.

John Carroll improved to 8-5-1 and 4-0-1 in the OAC, while Muskingum fell to 5-7-3 and 2-3 in league play.

JCU also improved to 6-0-1 at home in 2012.
