Women's Soccer Forces Overtime But Falls 3-2 To Quakers

Genny Goergen (#17) had three of JCU's six total shots in the loss
Box Score Not much can be doubted in regards to the effort provided by the John Carroll women's soccer team Saturday night. Down 2-1 on the road late in the second half, the Blue Streaks clawed their way back to tie the match, before Wilmington finished things off with a golden goal in the first period of the second half to win 3-2.

Shots were at a premium in the first half, until Wilmington's Camille Gentile put the Quakers on the board in the 34th minute.

Not to be outdone, All-OAC forward Kay Akerly uncorked her 13th goal of the season to even the score 1-1.

And when John Carroll was running out of time trailing 2-1 in the 73rd, Nicki Bohrer came to rescue with an equalizer to force overtime.

Once in the extra frame, however, Rachelle Bowen closed the door for the Blue Streaks with a sudden death goal.

Despite the loss, JCU finishes the season in a tie for fifth place in the OAC with Wilmington and Mount Union (15 points), ensuring the Streaks a berth in the 2012 conferent tournament as the #6 seed by virtue of a tiebreaker edge over Mount Union.

The Blue & Gold finish the regular season with a 9-6-3 overall record (4-2-3 OAC), and will play Capital in the opening round of the tournament Monday.
