After two tough weekends, the schedule for the John Carroll hockey team doesn't get any easier with a 3 game schedule. A two game, home and home series with local rivals the Akron Zips starts the weekend. Akron is a team on the rise with a 4-2 record coming into the weekend. The Blue Streaks know not to take them lightly but are excited to finally play a home game after four in a row on the road, with last week's road trip being one of the longest they will have all season.
Sunday a very talented Michigan State team comes to town to take on the Blue Streaks. A traditional hockey power, the Spartans pose yet another challenge for the team, especially coming off what is sure to be a tough series with the Zips.
This weekend will take a complete team effort to get three wins and improve the team's record. A few early season injuries will help showcase the depth of the team. Key contributions from Sophomore
Mike Gionta (2G) and Juniors
Lou Morici (2A) and Dan Potter (2G, 1A) have helped the Blue Streaks, but more will be needed from some other sources to get the team some wins this weekend, as well as another great performances by
Justin Camuto,
Scott Cromling and
Matt Russell in goal.
Friday's game against Akron is an 8:10 start at the Gilmour Academy Ice Arena. After a game at Akron Saturday afternoon, John Carroll returns to Gilmour Academy to take on Michigan State at 2:30 pm.
