The Blue Streaks were competitive in the middle weights Tuesday night, but could not do enough to stop Division I Cleveland State University in a 31-9 loss to the Vikings at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.
CSU opened with two major decisions, before JCU's
Jordan Victor (141) and
Dan Mirman (149) battled their opponents to an 8-5 and 10-4 defeat, respectively.
The 157 pound match was as deliberate as it was intriguing. JCU's
Terner Gott and Matt Donohoe of the Vikings battled to a 0-0 tie after the first period, before Donohoe scored a takedown in the second. After Gott evened the tally with a takedown of his own in the third, Donohoe picked up the decisive point late in the match to win 3-2.
165 brought good news for the home team, as Blue Streak senior
Clarence Semple scored several takedowns early and held on to defeat Michael Monson, 11-10.
John Carroll's other points came when
Bryan Steinmetz won by forfeit at 184.
The Blue & Gold will return to action on Saturday, December 1st when they travel to Rochester, New York to compete in the RIT Invitational. The event is slated to begin at 9:00 a.m.
