After picking up their 1,000th win in program history, the John Carroll University men's basketball team did not want a let down in its next outing.

Thanks to a strong defensive effort and timely shooting, the Blue Streaks carried that momentum into Wednesday night.

The Blue Streaks had been on fire as of late, coming into Wednesday night's match-up against the Heidelberg University Student Princes having won four of their last five games, including nine of their last 11 overall.

Considering the impressive play from the Blue Streaks as of late, JCU wanted to build off of that same momentum and keep the ball rolling with another win on the road against the Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Student Princes

But just as importantly, re-establishing its winning ways on the road was a point of emphasis. John Carroll had dropped its last two road games, and did not surpass 70 points in either setback.

On this night, John Carroll was on the right road. And it went through Tiffin.

After defeating Heidelberg by a score of 94-68 when these two teams met for the first time earlier this season at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center, the Blue Streaks completed the season sweep with a convincing 97-57 triumph.

Needing a win to maintain a first place tie in the conference with Capital University, the Blue Streaks had extra motivation coming into the game against the Student Princes.

The Blue Streaks cruised into halftime with an 18-point lead, making their mark in the first half as they led by a score of 51-33 at intermission. From there, John Carroll simply coasted to the win as they picked up their tenth conference win of the season, allowing them to stay in a first place tie with Capital.

As he has done all season, senior Corey Shontz led the Blue Streaks on the night from start to finish. Shontz recorded 17 points on 7-8 shooting from the field in the first half alone en route to finishing with 21 points total on the night.

Fellow senior Mark Hester also had an impressive night in his own right as he racked up 13 points on 5-9 shooting from the floor. Senior Conor Sweeney also reached double-digit figures as he had 11 points on the night.

As a team, John Carroll played excellent defense on the night as they held Heidelberg to a lowly 30.2 shooting percentage on 16-52 shooting. The Blue Streaks also forced 25 turnovers while only committing nine themselves.
