Blue Streaks Can't Maintain Lead In Opener Loss To Thomas More

Thor Eriksen scored JCU's first goal of the season in the 51st minute on Saturday
Box Score The John Carroll men's soccer team followed a winning script for 62 minutes, before surrenduring two late goals to drop their season opener, 2-1, to Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Kentucky Friday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, JCU senior Thor Erikson found the back of the net with an unassisted goal in the 51st minute to give the Blue & Gold the 1-0 lead.

The advantage would not last, however, as the Saints' Christopher Lehan scored the equalizier off a pass from Jake Plummer in the 63rd.  Andrew Sullivan put Thomas More ahead for good on a penalty kick in the 75th minute, giving the home team an opening day victory.

The Blue Streaks fell despite outshooting the Saints, 23-7.  Eight offside penalties also plagued the visitors.

John Carroll returns to action in its home opener against Case Western Reserve University on September 2 at 2:00 p.m.  The familiar Don Shula Stadium will be the venue.
