A quick end to a spirited match left the John Carroll men's soccer team stunned and on the wrong end of a 3-2 decision at Hiram College Sunday evening.

Hiram's Andy Harding scored the game-winning goal just 40 seconds into the first overtime period to wrest away a potential victory from the Blue Streaks which seemed quite probable after John Carroll held a one-goal lead entering the final five minutes of regulation.

JCU outshot and could be argued outplayed the undefeated Terriers for a majority of the regulation 90 minutes. Despite an 18-6 edge in shots taken over the course of the first and second halves, that 1-0 Hiram lead stood until the final ten minutes.

First, it was Jimmy Mattina scoring his first goal as a Blue Streak at the 83:31 mark. Just 63 second later, Kevin McKamish followed Mattina into the scorebook with his second goal of the year. Thor Erikson had the assist on both tallies.

Hiram, which had won its first six matches by a combined score of 22-4, had not trailed this late in any of its matches to this point of the season. But in the final five minutes, the Terriers got the break they needed when they drew a penalty in the box. Ryan Greenhill buried the penalty kick to send the match into overtime.

The Terriers improve to 7-0 overall with the win, while the Blue Streaks fall to 2-4 overall for the season.
