With Ohio Athletic Conference competition right around the corner, the John Carroll University women's soccer team came into Wednesday's match against the College of Wooster with the goal of staying on the winning track.

Fortunately, the Blue Streaks were up to the challenge, holding their fourth straight team scoreless while tacking on two goals in the home win.

When the going got tough, the JCU defense got going, limiting Wooster to 10 shots.  Anything that did get through was erased by sophomore goalkeeper Haley McDonald.

Coming into Wednesday's contest as winners of their last three games, including four of their last five, the Blue Streaks knew that momentum was on their side and wanted to keep the winning streak. Furthermore, the Blue and Gold came into the game having not defeated the Fighting Scots since the 2008 season, marking nearly a full four years since their last win over Wooster.

Just past the midpoint of the first half of action,  McDonald made an outstanding save in the net, diving to stop a shot attempt off a corner kick. This kept the score knotted at zero until the 29th minute, when junior Chelsie Hart was able to score the first goal of the game on a pinball-like play that began with a corner kick.  Danielle Sharbaugh and Genny Goergen assisted the score.

From there, the Blue Streaks were able to head into halftime with a 1-0 lead in hand.

After intermission, JCU kept its collective foot on the pedal.  Goergen bought the Blue and Gold some insurance as she scored a bar-down goal in the 50th minute of regulation, extending the advantage to 2-0.

McDonald again wowed spectators with another superb save in the 63rd minute to preserve the 2-0 lead.

Throughout the rest of the game, the Blue and Gold were able to continue their dominant defensive play and maintain possession of the ball as they sealed over the 2-0 victory over the Fighting Scots. With the blanking, McDonald and the JCU defense have now pitched four consecutive shutouts, proving that they can cause trouble for any opposing offense.

With the win, the Blue Streaks improve to 5-3 overall and have now won four straight games, including five of their last six.  Wooster drops to 5-3-1 in 2012.
