Box Score 2 With John Carroll's scrappy win over Muskingum Friday night not even 12 hours old, the Blue Streak volleyball team boarded a bus for a day trip to Maryland to face a pair of opponents at the Frostburg State Tri-Match.
With the exception of one set, it was a thoroughly dominating Saturday for JCU, beating Wesley (DE0 in three sets and the host Bobcats in four.
The victories boosted John Carroll's record to 17-8 on the season. the 17 wins are the most by a Blue Streak team since 2008, and the 17-8 won-loss mark is the best by a Blue Streak squad through 25 matches since the 2001 team also started the year 17-8.
Wesley came into the match with a 15-9 record but had just suffered a setback in five sets to Frostburg State in the opening tilt of the tri-match. Perhaps worn down from the marathon match, the Wolverines offered little resistance as JCU rolled to a 25-13, 25-4, 25-17 win.
The 21-point margin of victory in the second set is a program record for a 25-point match, and matches the largest winning margin in a set -- tying a 30-9 win (when games were decided by first to 30 points) over Wooster on October 23, 2003.
In the middle of the second set,
Sara Kaminski picked up her 1,000th career dig. She would finish with a team-high 15.
JCU also had a season-high team attack percentage of .361, with
Leah Switalski's 11 kills leading the way.
Kit O'Shaughnessy had 34 assists.
In the nightcap, the Streaks dropped the first set (25-22) to Frostburg State, but then took complete charge by rolling through the next three games, 25-12, 25-12, 25-10.
Switalski again was on fire at the net, putting down 13 kills while
Alexa Webber added 11. O'Shaughnessy had kills in 11 attempts without an error for a .727 hitting percentage, and also dished out 30 assists to go with 12 digs and three service aces.
Kaminski added 22 digs to her career total, now at 1,029.
John Carroll had 11 service aces in both matches.
