Box Score With an improbable comeback last October against Capital in the OAC Tournament, the John Carroll University women's soccer team was looking to keep the magic going against the Crusaders.
After a scoreless first half Capital broke through with two second half goals to claim the 2-0 win in the OAC opener for both programs. The Crusaders improved to 8-2-1, 1-0-0 while the Blue Streaks dipped to 3-5-3, 0-1-0.
Monique Hanayik broke through with the game's first score in the 51st minute and Hilary Ells added an insurance goal 12 minutes later.
Capital enjoyed an 18-7 shot advantage for the game.
Haley McDonald was up to the task early in the first half turning back two shots in the first 20 minutes.
Capital's shooters found their mark in the second half sending all nine shots on goal with McDonald coming up with seven stops in the game's final 45 minutes.
The Crusader's Maggie Donnellan turned back all four Blue Streak shots which were on goal.
The Blue Streaks had prime scoring opportunities following each Capital goal with
Ascia Hancock-Phillips and
Andrea Regrut sending shots towards the Crusader net.
Kay Akerly broke through with the Blue Streaks first offensive threat in the 14th minute.
Preston Mendel looked to put John Carroll ahead late in the first half but was stopped by Donnellan.
The Blue Streaks remain on the road with a 4 p.m. tilt at Otterbein on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
